The artists took the definition of
“fabrication” and created, constructed, united
parts into pieces of art with fabric as the basic element.
Commercially available fabrics or fabrics, which were
hand-dyed or over-dyed by the artists, were pieced or
appliqued. In addition, various techniques such as painting
on fabric, screen printing, digital manipulation of images,
surface design, thread painting, quilting, or addition
of embellishments exemplify a wide range of possibilities
of contemporary fiber art. The resulting art quilts include
abstract quilts, landscape quilts and pictorial quilts.
ARTQUILTS FABRICations is a traveling exhibition
of art quilts by members of the Professional Art Quilt
Alliance-South. The exhibition travels from 2004-2006. |
