Bring your fiber art to share with the group and
hang in the one-day Artists'
Showcase. Attendees' art quilts will be on
display throughout the day. You may bring materials
to post on the display board next to your work so
other attendees will know how to learn more about
you and your work. There will be additional time
for viewing each others' work during the extended
lunch break. Due to time restraints, not all attendees
will be able to talk about their work with the assembled
artists (priority given to PAQA-South members, 2
minutes maximum), however we will accommodate as
many artists as time will allow and everyone may
display their work in the Artists'
Showcase. Please note:
Each artist will hang his/her own work to
pin-able walls with pushpins or T-pins. Please carefully

Pricing
Your Art Quilts: Opportunities, Paradoxes and More!
with Carole Lyles Shaw, 11:05 am - 12:05 pm (1 hour)
Whether it is a bronze sculpture, an installation
using sand and water or an art quilt, every artist
faces the dilemma of pricing. As art quilters, we
tend to follow the conventions used by painters,
printmakers and collagists—people who work
in ‘flat’ formats. But, even when we
do, is this appropriate? And, how much do we really
think that our work is ‘worth’, especially
in an artistic marketplace that devalues anything
made of textile…most of the time? At the end
of the day, the artist has to make decisions and,
possibly, be prepared to defend them to potential
buyers. Some of the issues that we will discuss
include the impact of the uniqueness of our artistic
voice, our reputation, market factors and the possible
trap of thinking in terms of materials and labor
costs. And, we will talk about when, if and how
we should ever ‘justify’ or explain
our pricing to anyone at all! At the end of our
time together, we should all leave with increased
clarity about our personal decisions on pricing,
and hopefully new ideas from our dialogues with
others in the room. |
